Our doctors at PFCLA can diagnose female infertility and provide fertility medication to stimulate ovulation and promote healthy conception for you or your partner.
To find out if fertility drugs are right for you, your doctor will diagnose you for the best fertility treatment options to consider.
Fertility drugs will not be helpful unless you have viable eggs, as these medications are intended to help stimulate ovulation or regulate unpredictable cycles. They are, however, an excellent treatment option if you have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
By assessing your needs, your doctor can create a fully personalized treatment plan designed to give you the best chance for success at building your family.
There are many successful fertility drugs on the market today, ranging from oral medications to injectable drugs. Here are the two types of options your doctor can prescribe as ovulation induction agents:
By enhancing your ovarian environment and regulating your cycles, fertility drugs maximize your chances of conceiving. |

The medication options below will encourage your body to release hormones that help with ovulation. These drugs can be used in conjunction with reproductive treatments such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). Here are two of the most common ovulation induction agents:
Commonly called clomid or serophene, this medication can help you induce ovulation or stimulate extra follicles if you naturally ovulate.
Often used in conjunction with assisted reproductive methods or artificial insemination, clomiphene citrate has been a successful treatment, used for over 40 years.
Approximately 60 - 80% of women who take it will ovulate, and about half of them will conceive. If pregnancy does occur, it typically happens in three to six cycles.
Commonly prescribed if clomiphene citrate is unsuccessful, gonadotropin injections can increase your levels of hormones and induce ovulation. If you are currently undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF), gonadotropins can boost your production of eggs for the procedure.
Your doctor will advise you to self-administer the gonadotropin injection into the muscle or beneath the skin. You’ll administer routine injections between seven to ten days, typically at the beginning of your menstrual cycle.
Note: In some cases, you’ll be prescribed oral clomiphene citrate in conjunction with gonadotropins. We may also prescribe gonadotropin injections for men to improve their sperm count and quality.
Maximize your chances of conception by improving egg quality and ovarian stimulation to produce a high-quality egg during your IVF treatment cycle. For women seeking IVF without fertility drugs, talk to your doctor about our Mini IVF and Natural IVF services.
Fertility drugs can bring minimal, temporary side effects such as nausea, bloating, headaches, moodiness and breast tenderness. Talk to your doctor about how to treat these adverse effects, and let us know if these side effects persist.
Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), multiple births, ectopic pregnancy and ovarian torsion are more associated with gonadotropin class drugs. However, many of these are rare and our intended parents at PFCLA are in the best of care.
